The MEEROR collection is a series of mirrors launched during the Dutch Design Week 2024, drawing inspiration from the pristine mountain lakes of the Italian Dolomites. During my hikes in the Dolomites over the past years, I was struck by the clarity and stillness of the lakes I encountered. This experience led me to create MEEROR, a collection that captures the beauty of these natural water surfaces in mirror form.
The 2024 series consists of six different mirror shapes, each derived from the exact outlines of the lakes, reflecting nature's organic contours. The forms appear intuitively "right" to us, resonating as naturally harmonious even without knowing the story behind them.
The centerpiece of the collection is a large mirror 126 x 90 cm, featuring a frame crafted from Multylino, a sustainable material made from recycled linoleum, also used in my BOCHT chair. The frame has a wavy surface, shaped by a computer-controlled milling machine to reveal the various colored layers of linoleum. These layers mimic the contour lines of the surrounding mountains, connecting the mirror's design to its inspiration in a unique way. MEEROR provided the ideal project to apply this innovative technique, combining art, nature, and craftsmanship.
In addition to the large framed mirror, the collection includes smaller mirrors known as MEEROR MINI. These frameless, water-jet cut mirrors offer a minimalist aesthetic that emphasizes the natural shapes of the mirror glass itself.
The mirrors are mounted with discreet "spacers," creating the illusion that they are floating off the wall.
MEEROR is more than just a mirror series; it's an invitation to bring a piece of nature into your interior, reflecting the tranquil beauty of alpine lakes in a timeless design.
